Open Mic

About every month we have one Open Mic Night. Anyone is welcome to come play and we have tech assistants to help with sound. You may want to get in early though, spots fill up fast!

Thursday Night Shows

Our Thursday Night series, Thursday Night Out, is a free, weekly event. Locations can vary, but typically they are in the Memorial Student Center (MSC) Terrace. The shows differ from hip-hop, to acoustic, to full out rock and generally draw a crowd between 50-100 students. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Show starts @ 8:00pm and usually lasts until 10:15 or so (about an hour for each band).

How does my band get booked for a BDP show?

BDP books shows in advance. We book some of our Fall shows in the Summer, and our early Spring shows in the Fall/Winter. If you have a rockin’ band and you‘d like to perform on a Thursday night, please send an email to our Music Director at bdpmusic@uwstout.edu.

Your email should include:

  • Band name (and how many people)

  • What kind of music you play

  • Your contact information (email, phone)

  • Info of where your band has played before (if you haven’t, that’s cool too)

  • If possible, a link to some of your songs (Facebook, Bandcamp, YouTube, Spotify, etc.)

We will try and respond to all emails, but it may take awhile to get back to you. Please be patient, we’re doing our best!

So you've been booked for a BDP show, now what?

Congratulations! Now that you’ve officially been contacted and contracted, you'll find some important information below. Please review this Q&A and contact BDP with any questions you might have.

What time should we get there?

Arrival time is 6pm; sound-check follows shortly. Please be on time. When you arrive, BDP will help load in your equipment and get your band situated. There will be plenty of time to set up merch, get some food, and get a sound check done. Load in happens near the Memorial Student Center (MSC) at the address listed in our contact information.

How do we get to Stout and where do we park?

Check out the campus map. Shows will be held in the Memorial Student Center. Free parking is available on campus, locations may vary. Contact us for lot information. The Music Director and other BDP members will be there to help you navigate around the campus.

What does BDP provide?

Ice cold water, towels, meal-tickets for dinner, a group of students who can help carry things, etc. We also provide our own sound and lighting techs to assist you.

How does BDP promote our show?

Our Art Director makes a poster to be distributed on campus and in the city of Menomonie, digital signage to be displayed in the MSC and on our website, and a social media square to promote the event on social media; Our Web Development Director puts a press release and event scheduling details on our website; Our Marketing Team makes posts on social media and sends out emails to students interested in our events; we also use flyers, stickers, and plain old word-of-mouth to tell the students! We want everyone to check out your show and we try hard.

How can we help promote your show at Stout?

Stout is about an hour from Minneapolis/St. Paul and about 4 ½ from Milwaukee. If your band has die-hard fans, that's not a long way to go for a rocking show. Plus, there are plenty of things to do in Menomonie after the show: bowling or catching drink specials at local bars.

Anything Else?

If you have any other questions, concerns, or comments, please contact us. The staff at BDP loves what they do and we’re extremely excited for you to arrive. We hope you’re excited to perform at Stout!
